Jimmy Kimmel aims at ‘Donald Jennifer Trump’ after winning Best Talk Show, describing his departure from TV as an almost ‘near death experience’

Jimmy Kimmel’s Acceptance Speech at Critics Choice Awards

During the Critics Choice Awards, Jimmy Kimmel, the liberal late-night host, took a jab at Donald Trump while accepting the award for Best Talk Show. He humorously referred to Trump as “Donald Jennifer Trump” and expressed gratitude to the president for his win, saying without him, “we would be going home empty-handed tonight.” Kimmel added, “So, Mr. President, thank you for all the many stupid things you do every day.”

After the event, Kimmel remarked to reporters that his absence from television felt like a “near-death experience,” likening it to “Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn watching their own funeral.” This reflection seems to convey a sense of both humor and seriousness, as he processed his return to the spotlight.

Kimmel’s show faced an indefinite suspension following controversial remarks related to the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. He criticized how some conservatives responded to the tragedy, suggesting that MAGA supporters were attempting to politicize it and shift blame. Kimmel went further, comparing Trump’s mourning to that of a child and evaluating the FBI’s investigations critically.

In his monologue, he stated, “We hit some new lows over the weekend as the MAGA gang desperately tried to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than one of them and did everything they could to score political points from it. Between the finger-pointing, there was sadness.” This comment highlights the complicated reactions surrounding the incident.

Broadcast affiliates, including Nexstar and Sinclair, chose not to air Kimmel’s show, labeling his remarks as “offensive and insensitive.” They expressed a desire to maintain constructive dialogue in the political landscape. Still, Kimmel’s program was reinstated shortly after. When returning, he claimed that his earlier comments had been “misinterpreted.”

He emphasized, “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” noting that on the day of Kirk’s death, he shared his condolences on social media and still genuinely feels for the family.

Since making his comeback, Kimmel has resumed his critique of Trump and has expressed a readiness to dive back into the fray, especially after the holiday break. In his words, “They’ve been on the air a lot the last few weeks, and I can’t wait to get back on the air tomorrow night and talk about them.”
