Kimmel and Colbert Exchange Jokes Over Suspension

During a recent episode, late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert playfully jabbed at each other’s shows over recent suspensions. Kimmel described how he learned about his show’s temporary pull from ABC while in a rather private setting—the bathroom.

On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Kimmel, who faced backlash after remarks about conservative figure Charlie Kirk, recounted the unusual moment. He mentioned that he received a call from network executives. “I was in the office, typing away, when they said they wanted to talk to me. That seemed odd,” Kimmel shared.

Finding the office crowded with staff, he chose the bathroom for some privacy. “It’s the only place I could go to be alone,” he joked while recounting the call he received from an ABC executive, expressing concern about his comments. They decided it was best to air the show anyway.

Kimmel humorously recalled his reaction saying, “I started booing.” He felt strongly against the decision, believing that it wasn’t wise to suspend the show, even admitting he lost a vote to protest.

After re-entering the office, roughly nine producers present informed him that the show was indeed being pulled. “The audience was already there watching, and it felt pretty awkward,” he added with a laugh.

Despite thinking his show was finished for good during the brief hiatus, he expressed relief that he’d be back on air in just a few days. “I thought that was it,” Kimmel confided. “I was convinced I wouldn’t return.”

Colbert, who is reportedly facing financial issues with his own CBS show, shared his experience learning about Kimmel’s suspension during a taping, where his executive producer handed him a text revealing the news. He later brought this to the audience with a tone of disbelief, saying, “Amazing… Amazing.”

In a follow-up phone call, Colbert learned more details about Kimmel’s situation, which he later shared with his staff discreetly before announcing it on his show.

“It’s all up to them if they want to take their ball and go home,” he stated, to which Kimmel chimed in, “They don’t have the ball, Stephen. Let’s be honest.”

Both hosts joked about their shows while preparing for a crossover episode. Kimmel also used his return episode to address the gravity of his previous comments regarding a murder case, aiming to set the record straight without dishing out an apology.

In recent news, the Nexstar Media Group announced that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will return to ABC affiliates, shortly after a station decided to revive the show after a brief hiatus, despite some backlash. It appears the late-night rivalry continues, with both hosts keeping their fans entertained amid the chaos.
