Jimmy Kimmel Faces Backlash for Recent Comments
Jimmy Kimmel was criticized Tuesday night for what some described as “crocodile tears” during a lengthy monologue that many deemed self-serving. Notably, Kimmel made little mention of not apologizing for mistakenly addressing Charlie Kirk’s name at one point.
Upon returning to the screen after a break, Kimmel has been accused of portraying himself as the victim, particularly after he faced backlash for previous inflammatory comments about Kirk’s assassination last week.
Critics took to social media, suggesting that Kimmel was engaging in his usual tactic of flipping the narrative. Comments included, “In a typical left-wing way, Jimmy creates the victim himself.” Others voiced their displeasure about the sincerity of his comments, with conservative Dana Roche stating, “There’s no apology. He wasn’t joking. He blatantly lied about the killer’s politics.” The sentiments echoed the skepticism surrounding Kimmel’s motivations.
This backlash followed Kimmel’s decision to dedicate only a brief portion of his 20-minute monologue to clarify statements he made about Kirk’s alleged murderer, Tyler Robinson, suggesting a connection to a political movement.
Kimmel faced further criticism for delaying his mention of Kirk, which came after more than seven minutes into the segment. He claimed that he never meant to diminish the gravity of a young man’s murder, a statement some found lacking in conviction.
Piers Morgan weighed in, stating, “It’s hard to feel sympathy for Jimmy Kimmel and his crocodile tears. He has turned into a partisan political activist instead of a comedy host.” This sentiment seemed to resonate widely among viewers.
Andrew Corvette, an executive producer and close friend of Kirk, also found Kimmel’s explanations inadequate. He suggested that Kimmel should have ultimately addressed the misconception directly, proposing a clearer apology: “Sorry to say the shooter is a maga. He was on the left. I apologize to the Kirks for lying.”
