Jimmy Kimmel in Trouble for Controversial Joke
Jimmy Kimmel is facing backlash following his stand-up routine at a Disney event on Tuesday. The 57-year-old comedian made a controversial comparison between football stars Eli and Peyton Manning and the infamous Menendez brothers, who are imprisoned for a notorious crime.
Kimmel humorously depicted the Mannings, aged 44 and 49, as entertainers performing songs and dance routines while promoting various Disney productions.
“I want to thank the Manning Brothers for finally settling the question: What would happen if two bottles of mayonnaise could sing?” Kimmel quipped. “The answer is, they can’t and shouldn’t,” he added, further stating, “That’s worse than what the Menendez brothers did.”
His joke didn’t land well, as the audience reacted with audible groans. However, Kimmel continued with another punchline, asking, “Are you doing it too early or too late?”
The Menendez brothers, Lyle and Eric, were found guilty in 1996 for the brutal killing of their parents. Recently, a Los Angeles judge modified their sentences, allowing for the possibility of parole.
While some critics took to social media to express their outrage at Kimmel’s joke, others agreed with his critique of the Mannings’ performance. One user wrote, “Kimmel isn’t wrong; the Manning Brothers need to cut their dance shoes.”
Throughout his set, Kimmel also joked about Disney CEO Bob Iger, reflecting on the challenges of appearing annually at such events. He humorously noted Iger’s long tenure at Disney and hinted at the uncertainty surrounding future productions.
Later, Eli and Peyton returned to the stage to promote their upcoming Hulu series “Chad Powers,” alongside Glen Powell. The show, inspired by a popular segment featuring Eli, centers on a football player in disguise trying to join another team.
