Jimmy Kimmel’s Future and Retirement Speculations
Former comedian Jimmy Kimmel is on a summer break, following the announcement from ABC/Disney that his contract will be renewed for just one more year. This contract will expire in May 2027, and with Kimmel nearing 60, he has begun discussing the possibility of retirement.
Kimmel, along with his executive producer and wife, Molly McNearney, talked about these topics on a recent podcast.
“I know people who’ve experienced this situation. It’s amusing. Some folks make a big deal about saying, ‘I’m finished, I’m tired of this,’ and then they attempt a smaller comeback doing the same thing,” Kimmel noted. “That’s always a letdown. I can’t help but wonder, ‘Is that going to be me?’”
He elaborated, saying, “It really depends on what you mean by retirement… I’m not going to stop doing things; it’s just a different situation.”
McNearney expressed her thoughts, saying, “I would be happy to wrap up the show in a great way and move on to my own projects. However, I deeply care about the show and the team there. I believe the voice of the show is crucial right now.”
She continued, “It’s like he deserves some time to just relax, but I also want him to keep pushing forward. I feel a strong urge for him not to give up because what he’s doing is vital at this moment.”
It seems likely that Disney/ABC will extend Kimmel’s contract at least until the end of President Trump’s time in office. As many know, the Disney company tends to prioritize its political agenda over financial concerns or shareholder interests.
Stephen Colbert had higher ratings than Kimmel but was let go due to reportedly costing CBS around $50 million annually.
Kimmel’s financial situation might not be much better, if not worse.
These losses seem to be accepted because Kimmel’s role as a late-night host isn’t necessarily based on merit. If that were the criterion, he would have lost his position a long time ago. Instead, he benefits from a program that seems to favor those who align with leftist views. He’s often seen as a pawn for political agendas.
If you’re skeptical about Disney’s management, consider this: Kimmel earns millions while the company is cutting health insurance for thousands of employees.
The only reason Disney would make such cuts while financially supporting someone like Kimmel is likely tied to political motivations. Disney appears to disregard ordinary individuals and relies on Kimmel to perpetuate that narrative.
