Backlash Against ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Over Host’s Remarks

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” faced significant backlash after remarks regarding Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who was murdered. This led to calls for a boycott of both the network and its parent company, Disney.

A political commentator using the nickname “Jojo fromjerz” encouraged followers to join the boycott, emphasizing that it is critical in the current climate.

Wajahat Ali, another commentator, also called for a “collective boycott” until Kimmel is reinstated, suggesting that a financial hit would compel companies to reconsider their decisions.

In a tweet, Ali mentioned that all major talent associated with ABC and Disney should refuse to work until Kimmel returns. He noted that companies tend to prioritize their profits, which is why such actions are impactful.

Activist Brian Krassenstein criticized Disney and ABC, alleging that their actions were politically motivated and encouraged boycotts against related companies and advertisers to escalate the pressure.

On Wednesday, Sinclair revealed that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would remain off-air until Kimmel issued a personal apology to Kirk’s widow and donated to organizations connected to Kirk.

The late-night show was abruptly pulled following Kimmel’s comedic take on Kirk’s assassination, in which he accused political groups of exploiting the tragedy for their gain. This sparked outrage among conservative leaders and drew attention from federal regulators, including FCC Chairman Brendan Kerr, who suggested ABC could face future scrutiny.

Many staff members at Kimmel’s Los Angeles studio were blindsided by the network’s sudden decision, learning just before taping that the show would not air. Guests scheduled for upcoming episodes were also informed that their appearances had been canceled.

After the incident, Kimmel was seen away from the El Capitan Theatre but chose not to comment. Reports indicated that he is furious and is exploring legal options to exit his contract with ABC.

In response to Kimmel’s suspension, former President Donald Trump praised the decision, labeling it a win and criticizing Kimmel’s talent. Trump stated that ABC’s actions demonstrated the courage to make necessary changes.

The situation remains unresolved as comments are sought from Disney and ABC regarding the controversy.
