Jodie Sweetin Reveals Financial Struggles After “Full House”
Fans of “Full House” were taken aback when Jodie Sweetin shared that residual payments from the iconic show have nearly vanished, resulting in her recently receiving a paycheck for just one cent.
During her conversation with Josh McBride on the April 21 episode of the “McBride Rewind” podcast, Sweetin reflected on the show’s significant impact. “Full House” aired from 1987 to 1995 and became a beloved part of American culture, eventually leading to the spinoff “Fuller House” in 2016. The sitcom not only propelled Sweetin to fame but also launched the careers of several other actors, including John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, and the Olsen twins. Despite the show’s success, Sweetin remarked that her lifestyle is, in fact, quite modest.
“People think I live some extravagant life,” she noted during the interview. “But I got a one-cent check the other day. With the shift to streaming, there’s no syndication anymore. So, who gets paid for that? Nobody.”
Sweetin acknowledged that while the money from the initial syndication was decent, things have shifted. “At first, it was good. Maybe during the first rounds,” she mentioned. However, she added, “In my 20s, sure, there was money, but it wasn’t reliable.”
She elaborated on the unpredictability of income, sharing, “You just never know how much you’ll earn or when they’ll rerun the show.”
Sweetin illustrated the inconsistency of her financial situation. “Sometimes it’s like, oh, cool, that was a nice surprise, and other times it’s like, well, this could cover a nice dinner out,” she explained. “But you can’t depend on it.”
As for her current living situation, Sweetin candidly shared, “I drive a used 2023 Hyundai Sonata that I love. I rent my home and have maxed-out credit cards. I lead a pretty normal life.”
She concluded with a mix of optimism and realism, saying, “There are moments when it feels like everything is going well, but then there are times when you realize, ‘I need a day job.’”
