Joe Biden Has ‘Honorably’ Removed Himself from Hunter’s Trial

Historian Jon Meacham said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he believes President Joe Biden “honorably” recused himself from his son Hunter’s trial on gun charges.

“Someone who is voting against President Biden because of his son’s ordeals is not what you would call a floating vote, is it? That’s a no-brainer,” Meacham said. “I think what’s more serious is that Hunter Biden is the last surviving person in a car crash that happened on Christmas Day in 1972.”

He added, “I don’t know a family, including my own, that hasn’t been affected by addiction. And as you rightly point out, there’s accountability, accountability mechanisms, and guess what? The rule of law is being applied here. The president of the United States has clearly, consistently, honorably removed himself from this and let the rule of law play out. This is what we mean when we say practice what we preach. And that’s what President Biden has done. I’m a father, you’re a mother. I mean, try and put yourself in the shoes of a parent for a moment who is putting their child through what Hunter is going through. I think you can see that it’s difficult, complicated, painful. But it’s remarkable to me that the president has continued to move forward and do his job on behalf of the American people after, as you say, a life of incredible personal tragedy. Joe Biden’s life, biographically speaking, has been full of unexpected events, good and bad.”
