Biden vowed to continue his efforts to win the release of other Americans held by Hamas.
Washington:
US President Joe Biden said on Friday he was “extremely pleased” after Hamas released two American hostages abducted in the extremist group’s surprise attack on Israel from Gaza.
“Today, we secured the release of two Americans held hostage by Hamas in the horrific October 7 terrorist attack on Israel,” Biden said in a statement.
“Our compatriots have endured a terrible ordeal over the past 14 days and I am very happy that they will soon be reunited with their frightened families.”
Biden thanked the governments of Qatar and Israel, the Gulf state that houses Hamas’s political office and has previously brokered deals between the group and Israel, for their “partnership in this effort.”
The US president has vowed to continue efforts to win the release of other Americans held by Hamas since the attack. He talked about that part of his family last week.
“We will not stop until we bring our loved ones home. As president, there is no higher priority than the safety of Americans held hostage around the world,” Biden said.
