Embiid Reacts to NBA Fine
Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has voiced his discontent regarding a $50,000 fine imposed by the NBA for what they called his “despicable conduct” during a recent game against the Boston Celtics, which ended with a close score of 109-108 in favor of Boston.
During the first quarter of that match, Embiid made a shot while being fouled, and in his excitement, he celebrated with a “crotch chop,” a gesture reminiscent of popular wrestling moves from WWE.
After the fine was announced on Sunday, Embiid expressed his dissatisfaction. He suggested, quite pointedly, that the referee who made a specific “vulgar” gesture during the game should also face consequences, stating that such behavior is unacceptable. He even shared a GIF of an NBA official energetically signaling a blocking foul in a different game.
Embiid is no stranger to using the “crotch chop” as a celebratory gesture, and it’s worth mentioning that his team’s success has previously drawn attention from icons like the wrestling legend Paul Rebeck. This recent loss marked the 76ers’ first setback of the current season.
In terms of performance, Embiid, who faced injuries last season, has averaged 17.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in the ongoing season. It’s clear that his frustration not only stems from the fine but also from the competitive spirit that drives him on the court.
