John Catsimatidis Makes Film Debut in Timothée Chalamet’s “Marty Supreme”

Billionaire John Catsimatidis has stepped into the world of cinema with a role in Timothée Chalamet’s new film, “Marty Supreme.” It’s a fitting move for someone who clearly understands the value of things.

“I actually got paid! I’m a SAG member, so I’ve kind of launched a new career at my age,” the 76-year-old supermarket magnate shared on Friday.

According to Catsimatidis, producer Josh Safdy approached him while scouting for talent on the Upper West Side, leading to this unexpected opportunity.

While he’s been vocal about rising living costs on his WABC radio show, Catsimatidis also mentioned he will appear in “two or three scenes” in a film centered around the fictional tennis star Mary Moser, inspired by the real-life Marty Reisman, who operated Ping Pong Porlor in a building owned by Catsimatidis.

He’s set to make a brief appearance in the trailer, which was released on Wednesday. In this scene, Chalamet attempts to persuade two New Yorkers to purchase a custom orange ping pong ball featuring his name.

“That kind of custom ball, that would cost a lot of money,” Catsimatidis remarked during the scene.

Admitting his unfamiliarity with Chalamet, he said, “I didn’t know who he was! I was even telling the director he seemed to have a bigger role than me!”

It’s uncertain if Chalamet, also a local who attended public school, recognized Catsimatidis before they worked together.

Catsimatidis noted that filming his ping pong scene took seven hours. “I’m used to working for five days,” he reflected. “[Filming] It was like 14 hours. When it was all finished, it was around midnight.”
