John Cena is currently standing alone in the most global championship victory in the history of professional wrestling.
Cena, 47, defeated Cody Rhodes in the indisputable WWE Championship at the main event of WrestleMania 41 Night 2 at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night.
It gives Cena his 17th World Championship and moves him ahead of the legendary “Natural Boy” Rick Flair.
Cena was on the heels throughout the match, especially in the finish. Rapper Travis Scott came out to help Cena after Rhodes was kicked out of his fourth attitude adjustment.
Cena then attempted to crush Rhodes into the face with the championship belt. Rhodes blocked it but refused to hit Cena with it. The Challenger then kicked Rhodes low and slammed him with the title anyway, earning a historic victory of 1-2-3.
Cena played his heel persona at a post-show press conference after the first statement she wanted to build a better relationship with the journalists covering WWE. He said it was a “clickbait question” and began answering each question.
“Here you’re beginning to feel the pattern where you’re looking for headlines. So, I’m going to give it to you. I’m going to give it to you. I’m tuning it to Monday Night Raw to see how I can ruin wrestling. And remember that you’re talking to the last real champion now.
Flair and Cena have been tied up at age 16 since the “Peacemaker” star won the WWE Championship in January 2017. The victory comes 20 years after winning his first WWE Championship with JBL at WrestleMania 21, finishing the reign of Rhodes in 378 days.
It is also China’s first televised single victory since beating Triple H in the biggest Royal Rumble in April 2018.
However, this was Cena’s first world championship as heel after more than 20 years as a babyface in one of the most shocking moments in wrestling history, then on and attacked Rhodes along with Rock and Scott. Cena is scheduled to retire at WWE at the end of this year in 25 years.
Cina is Rhodes’s real life leader. He drove him up and down the road during his first stint at the first company in the American nightmare.
The storyline entering the match was broken up by WWE viewers and Cena after he made him the most polarized performer in the sport despite all the wins. Cena called it an abusive relationship.
Cena said in one of his storyline promotions, his previous driver brought mediocrity to his eyes, and he got sick in the championships he promoted over all those years. He plans to retire as a champion and chase the “toy belt” for everyone else.
Now run the Cena Championship one more time. Randy Orton appears on the backlash poster at an event in his hometown of St. Louis, with two old rivals posing for the last time.
(While Flair has technically had over 16 world title wins in his career, it is the one-year-old placeholder WCW International World Heavyweight Championship where he won two times, and his TV NWA World Heavyweight Championship win is not recognized by WWE.)
