John Cena’s Farewell at Madison Square Garden
New York – It felt like a Game 7 atmosphere. Madison Square Garden buzzed with excitement as fans filled the iconic venue to witness a legend’s final bow.
John Cena made his last scheduled appearance in WWE during Monday Night Raw. The crowd in New York City nearly reached fever pitch, showing their love for the new Intercontinental Champion. As Cena prepped to address the crowd, shouts of “Thank you, Cena!” echoed through the arena.
“It’s kind of surreal,” Cena remarked. “New York City has the power to make or break a career. Seeing all these faces tonight, I just want to say thank you, New York.” He reflected on his 23-year career, expressing that this farewell was particularly meaningful to him.
Dominik Mysterio didn’t wait long to interrupt. He challenged Cena for a rematch of the Intercontinental Championship, which Cena had just claimed from him the previous week. Mysterio was determined not to end his night in New York without another shot at the title, proposing a match at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29, right in his hometown of San Diego.
Cena fought back against Mysterio’s gang, showing he wasn’t stepping out without a fight. Alongside Sheamus and Rey Mysterio, he took part in a six-man tag match, ultimately finishing off J.D. McDonough.
As Cena, Sheamus, and Mysterio made their exit, waving goodbye to the enthusiastic crowd, many longtime fans couldn’t help but wonder how 23 years had flown by.
On a related note, two more wrestlers advanced in the Last Time is Now tournament during the event. Solo Sikoa triumphed over Dolph Ziggler, and Gunther forced Jevon Evans to tap out.
Cena’s WWE journey isn’t over just yet, as he has two more dates lined up: Wargames and Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
