John Goodman Reflects on Relationship with Roseanne Barr

John Goodman recently opened up about his relationship with former co-star Roseanne Barr, nearly five years after her firing from the revival of their hit show, Roseanne. In an interview, Goodman mentioned that he and Barr have not spoken in about seven or eight years.

“I doubt she wants to talk to me,” Goodman expressed, hinting at the distance that has grown between them.

Goodman and Barr played the beloved characters Dan and Roseanne Connor on the popular sitcom, which aired for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997. Their on-screen chemistry was widely adored.

Though the revival of Roseanne premiered in March 2018 to strong viewership, Barr was let go later that year due to some controversial remarks she made. Despite her efforts to apologize, the planned 11th season was scrapped, leading to the continuation of the story through a new show, The Conners, which returned in October 2018 without Barr.

Goodman reminisced fondly about the original series, recalling, “We hit it from Jump Street. She made me laugh, I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun.” He noted the series’ huge popularity back then, with audience numbers soaring to around 20 million. Goodman reflected on how things have changed since those times, yet he acknowledges it was “a special time.”

Conversely, Barr has also disclosed her feelings regarding her former co-stars, stating in a recent interview that she has not maintained any friendships with them since the show ended. She mentioned moving on from “that horrible ending” without holding any bitterness, emphasizing, “I hope they’re the best of what fun we’ve had.” Barr described her past experiences with the show as overshadowed by the aftermath of her departure.

The Conners has continued to find success, wrapping up its seventh season recently. Goodman shared how he approached the reboot, saying he initially thought it would only last a few episodes. It turned into something more extensive, and while he didn’t know how long it would go on, he certainly enjoyed being part of it.
