John Harbaugh Considers Adding a Veteran Quarterback

After the unfortunate news regarding Jaxson Dart, who has had to end his season prematurely, John Harbaugh is contemplating the addition of a veteran quarterback.

Dart’s injury has significantly disrupted the Giants’ season just a couple of weeks in, resulting in Jameis Winston stepping up as the starter, with Jake Haener promoted from the practice squad to back him up.

Harbaugh has expressed an openness to bringing in some quarterback help. “You know, I think I would probably,” he mentioned regarding the potential for adding a veteran. “But you’ve kind of got to go with what’s available as well. And you never know, if a younger guy becomes available that’s interesting, that would fit — and I think we’re looking at all that.”

The head coach, only in his second game with the Giants, stated, “All options are open right now,” when discussing the possibility of trading for a quarterback.

In terms of free agency, veteran Jimmy Garoppolo is a standout option for the Giants. Having spent 12 years in the league, he guided the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2019. With a starting record of 43-21, he has also spent the last two seasons backing up Matthew Stafford with the Rams.

There are trade possibilities as well, with Joe Flacco—who previously played under Harbaugh in Baltimore—coming to mind quickly.

The Giants saw their promising start fade away on Monday night as they faced a tough defeat against the Rams, losing Dart early in the match.

He took a harsh hit from two Rams defenders, which forced him to leave the game. “Yeah, it’s a big loss for sure,” Harbaugh acknowledged regarding Dart’s situation. “I mean, it’s your starting quarterback. It’s a tough loss.”
