John Harbaugh’s Coaching Future

John Harbaugh is expected to limit his coaching options before starting interviews with interested teams.

The former Ravens head coach shared with FOX Sports on Saturday that, although many teams have contacted him following his firing on Tuesday, he intends to interview with just three or four of them.

According to Paul Schwartz, those close to Harbaugh believe he would feel comfortable discussing opportunities with Giants general manager Joe Schoen, considering the existing structures of the teams he is evaluating.

Nonetheless, Harbaugh’s 18-year tenure in Baltimore was notable, and he may request financial commitments for coaching staff enhancements as well as improvements to facilities and overall program quality from a new employer.

Schwartz also mentioned that no one has brought up Harbaugh’s salary.

During his time in Baltimore, he made $17 million annually, which ranks him third behind Andy Reid ($20 million) and Sean Payton ($18 million). His salary would reflect his status as a Super Bowl champion and coveted free-agent head coach, adding to the costs for any potential hiring team.

Besides the Ravens and Giants, several teams like the Cardinals, Falcons, Browns, Raiders, Dolphins, and Titans are currently searching for head coaches.

While Harbaugh is a strong candidate, the Giants are still interviewing other prospects. Recently, they spoke virtually with Seattle’s offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak, as per an NFL Network report.

Kubiak led the Seahawks to become the NFL’s third-highest scoring team this season.

The Giants also conducted a virtual press conference with Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

Harbaugh, 63, coached the Ravens to a Super Bowl title in 2012 and ranks 12th in NFL history for most wins, boasting a total of 193 victories.

Having led the Ravens for 18 years, he is the second-longest active coach in the league, following Mike Tomlin, who is in his 19th season with the Steelers.
