US climate envoy John Kerry has announced plans to leave the Biden administration and switch to helping President Joe Biden's re-election campaign.

A spokesman for the former secretary of state told reporters Saturday that Kerry briefed his staff after meeting with Biden.
The 80-year-old's decision comes a month after he was a key figure in brokering a global deal calling on countries to divest from fossil fuels, which was announced in Dubai.
Kerry also brokered the 2015 Paris climate agreement, which committed countries to take action on climate change.
Kerry was a 2004 Democratic presidential candidate and previously served as a senator from Massachusetts.
Kelly, a longtime supporter of climate change, was one of the first senior officials appointed by Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who won the 2020 election.
Following the United States' withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, former President Donald Trump pressured President Biden to rejoin the United States in international negotiations on climate change.
Kelly is the first White House member to specifically focus on climate change and holds a seat on the National Security Council.
One of Kerry's top priorities as Biden's special envoy was to maintain close diplomatic relations with China on climate change.
