Leguizamo Prepares for Role with Humor

John Leguizamo recently shared some humorous insights while discussing his latest role as an adult film director turned arson investigator. He lightheartedly remarked on how much he indulged in “grumpy videos” during his preparation.

“I’ve been watching a lot of porn,” he joked with Page 6, clarifying, “It’s not for me, just for the role, you know?”

Leguizamo, known for his role in “Moulin Rouge!”, was quick to add that he didn’t gain anything personal from the film. Still, he hinted at, well, connections to the material.

In the new series “Smoke,” which he stars in alongside Anna Chlumsky, the duo plays investigators dealing with two separate cases of arson originating from the Pacific Northwest.

When discussing the nature of adult films, Chlumsky noted that all porn involves editing, to which Leguizamo, now 64, agreed. He joked that if his acting career falters, perhaps he could consider a career shift to, let’s say, “bluer” content.

He even playfully left the interview for a moment before quickly returning, adding a light-hearted touch to the conversation.

The series is based on the podcast “Firebug,” which chronicles the exploits of famed arsonist John Leonard Oh. It also stars Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett, contributing to a compelling narrative that draws on real-life events.

Chlumsky, age 44, doesn’t have personal experience with arsonists, but she mentioned encountering people related to those with a penchant for fire-setting. “It’s a strange topic,” she reflected, contemplating the psychology behind such actions.

Despite the serious themes explored, Leguizamo emphasized how enjoyable it was to collaborate with Chlumsky. “She’s incredibly fun to work with. We’ve been driving around for hours, just being goofy and laughing,” he shared with evident enthusiasm.

The show debuted its first two episodes on Apple TV+, with new episodes releasing weekly until August 15th.
