John Lydon, the former lead singer of the Sex Pistols, is a supporter of Donald Trump, despite his personal feelings about him. He admires Trump’s impact on a flawed governmental system.
Lydon frequently shares his support for Trump, yet he expressed in an interview that he doesn’t necessarily like Trump as a person, but appreciates some of his actions in the White House.
Punk icon Lydon remarked that he has an inherent dislike for politicians in general. Still, Trump stands out in a particular way. He referred to Trump as “the bad orange guy” and a “wrecking ball.”
“To be honest, the government is failing and needs a complete overhaul,” he said regarding the U.S. government’s challenges and Trump’s efforts.
“And while he may be ugly and frightening—really, quite despicable—he’s also incredibly humorous. There’s a certain sarcasm that is lacking in the media coverage here,” he noted in a British publication.
“To grasp how this man connects with working-class folks, you need to live in America. He speaks to us in a way we understand,” Lydon elaborated.
He also dismissed claims from others that Trump is somehow a “fascist.”
Lydon said, “There’s nothing bad about the orange guy that warrants such absurdity. It’s more effective to have no opinions on him at all. Just fix the issues and move on!”
Additionally, he expressed that there’s no genuine concern about Trump trying to reclaim office after his second term.
In the same wide-ranging interview, Lydon took jabs at an Irish rap group called Kneecap, criticizing their support for Hamas during a recent concert by displaying a sign saying “Fuck Israel, Free Palestine.”
“They seem to believe they’re channeling an outrageous manifesto like the Sex Pistols. It’s all nonsense! What bothers me is one of them suggested eliminating all conservatives. That’s just not right,” he said.
