John MacArthur Hospitalized with Pneumonia
Renowned author and pastor John MacArthur is currently hospitalized and is facing serious health challenges due to pneumonia. His long-time congregation received this news during a service on Sunday morning.
Tom Patton, a fellow pastor at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, shared with the congregation last week that MacArthur was diagnosed with pneumonia. He expressed the gravity of the situation, saying, “He might be admitted to the hospital and soon be in front of the Lord. I know what you want to do—pray for the family, for John’s wife Patricia, and for his adult children and their spouses.”
“We will place our dear pastor at the feet of the glorious Savior he served. He has remained faithful for many years, and now he has been waiting for his final order to be in his presence forever,” Patton added.
John MacArthur will soon hear the words, “Well done, a good and faithful servant…” (Matthew 25:23). The Lord appears to be trying to call him home.
Grace Community Church was informed today (July 13, 2025) of the pastor’s poor health.
Pray.
At 86, MacArthur is a prominent evangelical leader, having led Grace Community Church since 1969. He is well-known for his detailed sermons and serves as the president of the Master’s Seminary. Additionally, he is the voice behind the Grace radio ministry.
Word of his declining health has reverberated throughout the evangelical community.
“I have a lifelong respect for John MacArthur,” commented Pastor Jack Graham from Texas. “May he have the grace he has preached so faithfully and enthusiastically with him and his family.”
I have a lifelong respect for John MacArthur. May he have the grace he has preached so faithfully and enthusiastically with him and his family as he rounds the third round to the house.
MacArthur has had various health problems in recent months, including multiple heart procedures. However, fans of his radio ministry were somewhat reassured when he recorded a video update in April, claiming that his health was improving, albeit with a noticeably weak voice.
“I’m fine. I’m not sick at all,” he stated in that video. “My mind is working well, my lungs are working well. There’s nothing on the device I’m experiencing. I don’t have heart failure. In fact, my heart is probably stronger than the last decade of my life. I am very careful from the doctor.”
He also mentioned, “So at this point, all I can say is I feel great. I’m ready to resume my ministry.”
