John MacArthur's long battle for Gavin Newsom's beliefs

Rev. John MacArthur Passes Away

Rev. John MacArthur died on July 14 at the age of 86, leaving a lasting influence as a devoted messenger of the gospel.

His steadfast dedication to preaching the gospel often placed him at odds with cultural and political challenges, particularly those emanating from California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom.

According to BlazeTV host Ally Beth Stucky, “Some people may not realize that he has been pushing back against Gavin Newsom for quite a while.” Reflecting on past interactions, she recounted how MacArthur confronted Newsom when he was still the mayor of San Francisco before he made decisions that affected California churches.

During one notable exchange, Newsom remarked, “I’m a practicing Catholic, married in the church,” while discussing issues related to marriage and family structures, trying to navigate complex social questions.

MacArthur, persistent in his views, posed a straightforward question to Newsom: “Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God?” to which Newsom hesitantly acknowledged, “With respect, I would.” However, he quickly distanced himself from theological debates.

MacArthur emphasized traditional biblical teachings on marriage and morality, pointing to the consistent views shared across the New Testament, arguing adamantly against practices like adultery and homosexuality which he deemed contrary to biblical precepts.

“He represents the nation,” MacArthur stated regarding Newsom. “He claims to align his Catholic faith with his actions, but I ask, ‘What is your authority?’”

Stucky added, “John MacArthur has been a persistent challenge to Gavin Newsom,” highlighting their ongoing conflict.
