John Mara plane sign brought back 1978 memories to Giants fan who did it first

On Sunday, about 90 minutes before kickoff for the Giants' home game against the Saints, a small plane flew around MetLife Stadium with the words “Mr. Mara Enough is Enough – Please Fix This Dumpster Fire” in the background.

Minutes before kickoff, 92-year-old Ron Fryman told the Post on the phone that he, along with two other fed up Giants fans, flew over Giants Stadium during a 1978 game against St. Louis. He recalled the time when he rented a famous airplane. The Cardinals hold up a banner that reads, “15 Years of Bad Football – Enough is Enough!”

This maneuver is believed to have been at least partially the impetus for then-Giants co-owner Wellington Mara to hire general manager George Young to revamp the franchise.

“They're copycats,” Fryman, who now lives in Florida, said with a laugh over the phone. “But I think it was a good idea, and if my symptoms don't improve, I'm going to get back out there on crutches.”
