John Mayer celebrates Mets’ ‘monumental run’ in heartfelt post

John Mayer wants Francisco Lindor and the 2024 New York Mets to bow out after this season's “monumental run.”

With a heartfelt message Shared on Instagram on Mondaythe seven-time Grammy Award winner spoke candidly about the inspiration he got from Lindor and the club during Sunday's NLCS Game 6 against the Dodgers, a 10-5 loss.

“Thank you Francisco Lindor @lindor12bc. Thank you New York Mets,” Meyer, 47, began. “You never know when you're going to find a new source of inspiration. Francisco was that inspiration for me this year. You could see the dedication in his eyes and his game, and you could see it in his strikeouts. It wasn't that I couldn't do it, it was just that I couldn't do it at that time.

“This summer's My Sphere concerts became a game in my mind. The victories were when the music worked, when the notes matched my intention, when I was able to find the zone. Every week. It was a series at the end, and every show was a home game.”

Mayer, who performed at Las Vegas venues with Dead & Company from May until early August, revealed how he channeled Lindor while suffering from a finger injury.

“When I injured my finger and I looked down and half of my nail was torn off and bleeding, my first thought was, how am I going to snap the other three fingers? If it was Lindor. He would, and that's why I did it,” Meyer said of the Mets' star shortstop.

“The Mets' talent makes them aspirational, but their humanity makes them relatable. The possibility of doing so is not out of the question.

“If there's one secret to success, it's to choose people in your life that you admire and run with them. You don't need to know them to know that if they can keep going, you can too. No. And the Mets kept winning.”

Although the magical run remains over, Meyer hopes Lindor and his teammates “realize that what they accomplished is enough.”

“Their monumental run was enough to unify a city, bring families and friends together, and above all remind us that there is no more powerful force in achieving success than hard work.” . The boring word “effort”. But that is the only chance for the good to become great, and for that greatness to be established for a long time,” he wrote.

“Thank you Francisco Lindor and the 2024 Mets for an incredible adventure, an inspiration and a reminder to never give up. That was more than enough.”

Lindor entered Mets legend earlier this month after helping the team advance to the NLCS with a grand slam over the hated rival Phillies in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Manager Carlos Mendoza echoed Meyer's sentiments after Sunday's loss, which ended with the NLCS and the Dodgers advancing to the World Series to face the Yankees.

“I told the players how proud I was of them, because not only did we become a really good team, but we also became a family. And now we're meeting the standards “This is what we should strive for every year so we can play until October,” he said.

Meyer has long been a fan of Lindor, who came to New York in 2021 following a trade with Cleveland.

He thanked the four-time MLB All-Star and the Mets after his performance at Citi Field last summer.

“I'll never forget those two New York plays at @citifield. I'm in a sporting mood, so let's look at the numbers. We played 4 sets of music over 2 nights, 75% of which were performed while standing upright. Number of people photographed: 4 people (credits are tagged in each photo) Series MVP: @lindor12bc for their friendship and hospitality, and the @mets organization for being my biggest fan. They took great care of my father, who is alone. The music was floating, the band was excited the entire time, and there was never a moment when we took the music for granted. I’m leaving it all on the field with…” he captioned a June 2023 Instagram post featuring himself wearing a Lindor Mets shirt.
