Tennis Legend John McEnroe’s Airport Encounter
There was quite an intense moment at Melbourne Airport involving tennis icon John McEnroe, who appeared noticeably annoyed by a persistent fan.
McEnroe, who has spent the last two weeks there covering the Australian Open, was approached multiple times by a fan requesting a photo, even after he had politely declined.
In a now-viral video, as he made his way through the airport, one fan joked, “Do I need to carry your bag?”
McEnroe, 66, carrying a backpack, guitar, and roller suitcase, responded, “I hope you don’t come near me,” indicating his discomfort.
Fans followed him closely, filming the encounter as he was escorted by security.
Frustrated, McEnroe told the guard, “This guy needs to get out of here now, okay? Can we stop him?” He then added, “Hey, wait a minute. Everyone, stop. We’re running out of time.”
When the fan persisted with another request for a picture, McEnroe raised his voice, exclaiming, “Will you please stop? Please stop! Jesus Christ! Are you kidding me?”
Another fan chimed in, holding what looked like a blue folder, saying, “I still love you, John.”
To that, McEnroe responded harshly, “Go f*ck yourself.”
The identity of the persistent fan remains unknown, as their face was blurred in the footage.
McEnroe, known for his fiery temperament, has a history of on-court outbursts, including memorable moments where he would question the judgment of officials by asking, “Are you serious?”
In other news from the Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Novak Djokovic to complete his career Grand Slam, while Elena Rybakina claimed victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s final.
