BALTIMORE — The Jets’ Top Receiver Emerges

It’s kind of wild, but the Jets’ leading receiver just joined the team a month ago.

John Metchie III made a significant impact in the game against the Ravens, catching six passes for 65 yards, including the Jets’ sole touchdown.

This all came about after a trade on October 29, where Michael Carter II was sent to Philadelphia in exchange for Metchie and a later draft pick.

Metchie has quickly found his stride, scoring touchdowns in consecutive games.

If you’re searching for a bright spot in the Jets’ challenging season, Metchie certainly fits the bill.

As coach Aaron Glenn put it, “He’s here for a reason. We didn’t acquire that player for a contract or anything. We felt he could help us. And he’s definitely done that. He stepped in right away and became a leader.”

“That player is going to be a good player for us; we have to keep looking for ways to get him the ball. I’m really glad we brought him on board.”

Metchie capitalized on a defensive blitz exactly as he had against the Patriots the previous week.

“We kind of got what we wanted and took advantage of that look,” he commented.

With Garrett Wilson sidelined due to a knee injury, Metchie has stepped up as the Jets’ primary receiver.

Adonai Mitchell also joined the team at the trade deadline, creating a solid duo for the offense.

Metchie shared his growing comfort level on the team, stating, “It’s like having more reps. You get closer to each other, learn the playbook better. We’ve only been together for a couple of weeks, but we’re professionals and need to understand that.”

On the other hand, Glenn was less than pleased with the way events played out after the Ravens’ first touchdown.

As the Ravens brought in their substitutes, the Jets did the same, but there was a bit of a mix-up. The referees didn’t halt the game, which resulted in a rather confused situation. Derrick Henry eventually scored a 2-yard touchdown amidst the chaos.

“When they subbed, I thought we had to give them time to sub,” Glenn remarked, exasperated. “The players were running on the field and didn’t have time to get in. That’s just how it goes.”
