John Gruden Discusses NFL Lawsuit After Supreme Court Ruling

Former NFL coach John Gruden recently commented on his ongoing case against the league, following a ruling from the Nevada Supreme Court allowing his lawsuit to move forward in court instead of through arbitration.

“I’m looking forward to the truth coming out. I want to make sure nobody else has what happened to me,” he shared in a statement.

Gruden filed a lawsuit against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell in 2021 after emails were leaked that contained “racist, sexist, and homophobic” language. He accused the league of launching a “malicious orchestrated campaign” to undermine his career.

Reflecting on the impact of the email release, Gruden said to ESPN, “The league’s actions disrupted the entire season. We were leading our division, and they kept my team completely blind.” He added, “What happened was incorrect. I’m glad the court didn’t let the NFL hide it.”

The ruling, decided by a 5-2 vote, stated that “the arbitration clause in the NFL constitution is ruthless and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.”

Gruden’s attorney expressed satisfaction with the ruling, emphasizing its significance for all employees facing unfair arbitration processes. “This victory will clarify Coach Gruden’s reputation and ensure accountability for the NFL,” he said.

Looking ahead, Gruden expressed his desire to return to coaching, stating, “Hopefully, I’m not finished. I’m about to make a comeback. I’m working hard to get another shot.” He remarked on the possibility of getting hired again, perhaps referring to connections he hopes to maintain from his past experiences.

In a reflection of determination, he noted, “I don’t care if I coach at Jones Middle School or not. I’m going to coach again. I’m still coaching in some capacity, dealing with private challenges.”
