Jon Rahm avoids discussing his desire for a return to the PGA Tour as his future with LIV Golf remains uncertain.

Uncertainties Surrounding LIV Golf’s Future and Player Participation

With the future of LIV Golf uncertain, particularly in light of its ability to even exist in 2027, players are left wondering where they might compete next year. This isn’t just speculation; even Jon Rahm seems unsure about his plans for the upcoming season.

Rahm, who has clinched LIV’s individual title each year since he joined the circuit ahead of the 2024 season, is preparing for a few DP World Tour events over the next few weeks. In an interview before this week’s Irish Open, he candidly admitted that he has “no updates” regarding LIV’s future since the season ended in August in Indianapolis.

LIV Golf lost its backing from the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) at the end of the 2026 season. LIV’s CEO, Scott O’Neil, has stated that a new investor is on board for what might be termed “LIV 2.0,” but the specter of bankruptcy and ongoing funding issues cast a long shadow over the league’s prospects.

While Rahm expressed his uncertainty, he was still asked multiple times about the future during his pre-tournament press conference. “There’s just a lot of things in place. There’s a lot of things that could happen,” Rahm said, reflecting a common sentiment that only time will reveal what comes next.

When questioned about the possibility of returning to the PGA Tour, Rahm didn’t provide a clear answer. “I still have a contract with LIV 1.0 that I am more than willing to fulfill,” he said cautiously. “Like I said, time will tell.” So, when pressed again about possibly playing on the PGA Tour, his response remained noncommittal: “We’ll see what happens.”

RAHM WEIGHS IN ON POSSIBLE RETURN TO PGA TOUR

Reports indicate that Rahm’s contract with LIV is worth significantly over nine figures, and he echoes a familiar refrain: the future remains uncertain, particularly if LIV files for bankruptcy.

For now, Rahm is adopting a patient stance regarding his contract payments, and like many LIV players, he finds little recourse in choosing sides as the organization’s fate hangs in the balance.

WAITING FOR A CLEAR PATH FORWARD

As speculation about LIV 2.0 continues, it remains unclear how any potential return to the PGA Tour might be structured for players who switched to this breakaway circuit. While it’s likely there will be some avenue back for prominent players, including Rahm, the landscape remains murky. Until clearer options emerge, it appears the best course of action is simply to wait and see.
