Comedian Jon Stewart recently criticized CNN anchor Jake Tapper and the network itself while promoting a new book that highlights former President Biden’s perceived spiritual decline.
“You’ve created a whole buffet… based on what seems like a straightforward story about mental decline. The news features a countdown clock, there’s a graphic for the book, and even a CNN Happy Meal toy, yet it feels almost inappropriate to cover it like this,” Stewart remarked. “Can CNN really use needles as thread? How do you shift from enthusiastically promoting Tapper’s book to actually honoring and advertising it?”
Stewart’s remarks were initially noted by Mediaite.
Tappe and journalist Alex Thompson’s book discusses aides who were unaware of the severity of Biden’s mental decline and even includes moments where discussions around his potential second term involved him using a wheelchair.
They’ve faced backlash from critics who accuse them of withholding details regarding Biden’s condition during the concluding months of his presidency.
Former President Trump and others argue that the book serves as evidence of mainstream media’s tendency to ignore the severity of Biden’s situation as we approach the 2024 presidential election.
“Forget the fact that it’s odd, and you’re selling books about news that you could have easily gotten for free a year ago,” Stewart added. “…It’s just amusing… They’re not only pushing the book in light of this tough news but are also framing that tough news as a compelling reason to actually purchase the book.”
