Stewart Reflects on Trump’s Royal Persona
On Monday, Jon Stewart suggested that President Trump has a resemblance to a king, building on comments made by some Republican lawmakers, just days after audiences rallied for “No Kings Day.”
During his segment on The Daily Show, Stewart shared clips of Trump’s supporters and commentators referring to him as a “miracle worker,” “God’s chosen instrument for this moment,” and a “special anointed” figure.
“Now, he may not be an all-powerful king who can do whatever he pleases, but close enough,” Stewart commented. “He definitely has that kingly vibe. Honestly, he’s like a king crab at this point.”
He continued, pointing out that for Republicans, “the king is downplayed. He’s not just a king; he’s like a god sent to bring peace to everyone. Almost like Jesus.”
Following his monologue, Stewart introduced a skit titled “Jesus or Trump,” which featured quotes that could either belong to Jesus Christ or Trump himself.
Stewart also highlighted the turnout for “No Kings Day,” an event where millions protested against the Trump administration the prior Saturday. Several Democratic lawmakers praised the demonstrations, and authorities noted that there were no arrests despite the protests occurring in various cities.
In contrast, Republicans largely criticized the protests before and after the event. House Speaker Mike Johnson referred to it as a “Hate America Rally.”
Trump took to his platform, Truth Social, to express his disdain for the demonstrations. He posted an AI-generated video showing himself wearing a crown and piloting a fighter jet that flew over protesters in New York’s Times Square, seemingly dropping feces on them.
He also shared another video, first introduced by Vice President Vance on Bluesky, depicting him in a crown with a sword.
The clip concluded with Democratic senators, including Chuck Schumer and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, kneeling in tribute to George Floyd in 2020.
In defense of Trump’s video, Johnson described it as satire.
