John Stewart offers his seemingly passive support for President Trump's push for plastic straws, saying the paper version is “objectively awful.”
The president signed an executive order on Monday, directing the federal government to return to using plastic straws. On paper straw, Trump said, “Don't work.”
Trump's frequent critic Stewart appeared to be dissatisfied with the move while holding Monday's “Daily Show” at Comedy Central.
While caught up in what appeared to be a condemnation of Trump's executive order, Stewart cried instead, “OK, he was right in this.”
“These straws are f—worthy,” the 62-year-old comedian said of the paper straw.
“I should have a strange tissue paper melted in my mouth just because the turtle doesn't understand that straws aren't food?” Stewart told the audience.
“Don't eat the tube, you're a stupid turtle!” he said.
“Everything that Trump does is part of “making America great again.” Please order one. Roll back everything from the great management of the previous. Not only are the environmental regulations, the regulations on the second amendment, the Title IX guidance, but we just want to make America great again. “We can't skimp on the details,” Stewart said of Trump's straw-focused executive order.
Trump's support for plastic straws came after former President Biden set a goal last year aimed at ending the federal government's single-use plastic purchases by 2035.
“In the past 20 years, plastic production and waste have doubled, scattered the ocean, poisoning the air in communities near production facilities, threatening public health,” the White House said in a fact sheet released at the time. I've said that.
