Jon Voight Advocates for Tariffs on Hollywood Films
Jon Voight, the renowned actor, shared on Monday that he had suggested tariffs on certain Hollywood productions to President Donald Trump. He stated this via social media, indicating that his idea sparked a series of developments leading to the tariffs.
On Sunday, Trump announced on Truth Social that he was empowering the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to begin implementing a full 100% tariff on American films made in “foreign lands.”
Voight released a video on Tuesday where he elaborated on his proposal. In the video, he discussed his recent meeting with Trump, highlighting the president’s passion for the entertainment industry.
“I recently met with our president, Donald J. Trump, who loves the entertainment business,” Voight mentioned in his post titled “Plan to rescue Hollywood.” He expressed that Trump aims to reinvigorate Hollywood to create films that are larger and more impressive than before, wanting productions to return to American soil—something that Voight described as the Hollywood he fell in love with as a child.
Voight underscored that many American workers in the film sector have faced job losses as productions have shifted overseas. He noted, “Our industry has suffered immensely in recent years. Many people have lost their homes and are struggling to feed their families.”
He continued, “After discussing with various leaders in the entertainment field, I’ve shared several recommendations with the president regarding tax provisions that could aid our industry.” These suggestions include both extending existing provisions and reviving others to support film and television production, as well as the theaters vital to family experiences in America.
Voight reiterated his strong support for Trump and the proposed tariffs. “Our president cherishes this nation and its hardworking citizens,” he stated.
Voight described Trump as an excellent businessman and a compassionate leader who will always take the right actions for the country and the entertainment sector. He has consistently been a prominent conservative voice in Hollywood, often expressing his allegiance to Trump.
Additionally, Trump has appointed Voight alongside actors Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors to promote business opportunities in Hollywood.
“I’m proud to call the 47th president of the United States my friend, and I’ve said it before—he’s the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln,” Voight remarked, adding a lighthearted reference to Stallone as he published his thoughts on the matter.
