The Yankees are holding off on making any official statements concerning Jonathan Roashga’s latest injury as they await an official diagnosis. However, according to manager Aaron Boone, it seems Roashga is likely dealing with a flexor strain, which could complicate his ability to pitch for the Yankees this season.

“We’re gathering more opinions on the situation,” Boone mentioned at Steinbrenner Field before the Yankees secured a 6-4 victory against the Rays in 10 innings. “We’ll see what additional insights we get.”

Roashga has faced numerous injuries in his time with the Yankees. The most recent one had him sidelined for several weeks after undergoing UCL surgery last April. Right now, flexor strains can sometimes signal UCL issues, although there’s no current indication that Roashga is facing that complication.

Boone is waiting for further evaluations from various doctors before he elaborates more on the subject. “I want to be cautious; I don’t want to jump to conclusions until I have all the information,” he said.

During the game, Giancarlo Stanton showcased his power by hitting two home runs and playing five innings in right field, stirring up excitement among the fans.

Stanton was instrumental in the late victory, underscoring his essential role on the team. Boone has hinted that plans for Stanton’s role might shift during the upcoming series against the Red Sox. While he’s not necessarily looking at starting Stanton in right field by the weekend, he remains a valuable asset in the lineup.

“Stanton is hitting incredibly well,” Boone emphasized. “I think he’s at the top of his game right now.”

As for bullpen support, the Yankees are looking forward to the return of Fernando Cruz, who’s recovering from a diametrical strain and made his rehab appearance on Tuesday night. Boone noted that Cruz could potentially return as early as Friday, though the team is considering whether he needs another rehab outing first.

In the meantime, the Yankees recalled Alan Winnans from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take the place of Brent Headrick, who was placed on the IL with a forearm issue.

On another note, Ryan Yarbra has resumed his rehab, working towards building up to 50 pitches in 3¹/₃ innings during his second outing in Triple-A.
