Jonathan Roumie Tells CUA Students to ‘Surrender’ to God, Represent Him ‘At All Times’

Jonathan Roomy, best known for his role as “Jesus Christ” in the popular series “The Chosen,” spoke at the commencement ceremony at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.according to christian postRoomi’s comments include looking back on his career and including “three simple lessons I learned from playing Jesus.”

“You don’t have to play yes to the world to be yes to the world,” he told the graduates. “I realized that just because you play Jesus on a TV show, it doesn’t mean you can or should stop being Christ to everyone you know once the cameras stop. Neither should we.”

“Just because you’re not an actor playing Jesus, or a priest or a nun, doesn’t mean you’re not always going to represent Jesus wherever you go,” Rumi continued. The actor also encouraged the graduate and his loved ones to “pray for vocations,” adding, “If vocations are not prayed for and answered by God and the Holy Spirit, the Church will not exist on earth, especially in terms of the sacraments.” “It won’t happen,” he warned.

“Being yes to the world doesn’t mean God expects perfection from you. We all know that was accomplished by just one person on earth and his mother. ” he said. “You must strive to preach the gospel by the way you live, by your actions and choices, by your political positions, and by your advocacy of the causes you champion.”

Later in his speech, Rumi reflected on his role as Jesus in “The Chosen One” and said that he often asked, “Why did God give me this?”

“God will call us to Himself and will use any means necessary to serve and imitate Him. And in my case quite literally,” the actor said in response to his own questions. He answered and spoke.

“When you decide to serve God first and not yourself, that’s when your true success begins.”

In conclusion, Rumi encouraged graduates to “surrender.”

“You are not in charge. God is. I cannot stress this enough,” he said.

“I have discovered that surrender leads to salvation in every possible way. Being self-reliant will not cure you of your illness. Your will power will not save you. Your independence will come from your faith in God. It does not deliver you from what seeks to destroy your soul, erode your hope in Christ, and erode your love for the Holy Spirit and for humanity itself,” Rumi argued. “These are all lies of the enemy. The more you devote yourself, the deeper God will take you. The more you love God, the higher you will go. God The more you seek, the wilder your journey will be.”
