Colts Defeat Falcons in Overtime in Berlin
Jonathan Taylor’s impressive performance propelled the Indianapolis Colts to a thrilling 31-25 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL’s inaugural regular-season game held in Berlin on Sunday.
Taylor rushed for 244 yards on 32 carries and secured three touchdowns, including the decisive score in overtime. This feat not only clinched the game but also allowed him to surpass Pro Football Hall of Famer Edgerrin James as the Colts’ all-time leader in rushing touchdowns.
James had recorded 64 rushing touchdowns with the Colts during his time from 1999 to 2005, but he never topped the league in that category throughout his career. Before the game, Taylor was leading the league with 12 rushing touchdowns for the season and 63 total touchdowns. After this outing, he has just 66 games left.
With a little over six minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Colts leading 17-16, Taylor took a handoff, navigated through a crowd of defenders, and sprinted to the outside for an impressive score, marking his 84th career touchdown run.
In overtime, he capped off his remarkable day with an 8-yard rushing touchdown, securing the Colts’ win.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones had a solid outing, completing 19 of 26 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown to Alec Pierce, though he did throw one interception. Rookie tight end Tyler Warren made a significant impact, with eight catches for 99 yards, playing a critical role in the Colts’ game-tying field goal during regulation.
Meanwhile, Falcons running back Tyler Allgaier scored two touchdowns but couldn’t lead his team to victory. He did help Atlanta carve out a late three-point lead, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to seal the win.
Falcons quarterback Michelle Penix Jr. completed 12 of 28 attempts for 177 passing yards, including one touchdown pass to Drake Rondon, who had a strong game with six receptions for 104 yards.
This victory improved the Colts to 8-2 on the season, making them the second team to reach eight wins. On the other hand, the Falcons fell to 3-6.
