If this was Jonathan Taylor’s final game with the Indianapolis Colts, it ended about as badly as it could have. The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated their AFC South rivals, winning 42-7 as trade talk around the star running back continues to grow.
At 2-6, the Colts have made several moves during a disappointing season, despite not having their first-round pick. They recently traded Quenton Nelson, and Taylor remains one of the team’s most valuable players.
The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings have both been mentioned as possible destinations for Taylor. Each team is leading its division, and Taylor has earned three Pro Bowl selections.
Against Jacksonville, Taylor had little room to work with. He finished with 23 rushing yards on eight carries and lost a fumble during a botched trick play. He is still the last player to rush for more than 100 yards against the Jaguars, doing so in the 2024 regular-season finale.
Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, Bayshul Tuten scored twice, and Rayuan Lane returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown with 10 seconds left in the first half.
The Jaguars led 28-0 at halftime, the third-largest halftime advantage in franchise history. The lopsided score came five days after Indianapolis traded two key players, Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. The Colts have reportedly rejected an offer centered on a second-round pick for Taylor.
Indianapolis has not won at EverBank Stadium since 2014. Its 12-game losing streak there includes a 2016 game played in London. Jacksonville has beaten the Colts at home even during some of its roughest seasons, including a one-win campaign in 2020 and two seasons with just three wins.
Daniel Jones completed 19 of 28 passes for 144 yards, throwing a touchdown to Josh Downs and two interceptions. He was pulled in the fourth quarter, with Anthony Richardson taking over.
The Colts are set to host the Dallas Cowboys next week. Whether Taylor will still be with the team by then is unclear.
