Jorbit Vivas hits his first MLB home run in a victory for the Yankees

Yoruvit Vivas Hits First Major League Home Run

Yoruvit Vivas made his first career home run a memorable moment, contributing significantly to the Yankees’ thrilling 1-0 victory on Thursday.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Vivas connected on the first pitch, sending a fastball deep into right field. This single run sealed a series sweep against the Rangers.

“That definitely means it’s special,” Vivas remarked through a translator. “You’re helping your team win, so from day one, that’s what I’ve aimed to do here.”

The game featured a pitchers’ duel between Carlos Rodon and Nathan Eovaldi before Vivas delivered his sixth home run of the season.

“In that moment, so many thoughts were racing through my mind,” Vivas recalled. “Then it hit me, ‘Oh, my first one. Finally.’ I was looking for something higher in the zone, just ready to make contact.”

This was not Vivas’ only notable moment during the home stand. Just four days prior, he showcased his determination with an 11-pitch at bat against Ryne Stanek, tying the score with the Mets in the eighth inning.

After a series of six foul balls, Vivas finally put the ball in play, prompting an error from Pete Alonso that allowed the Yankees to capitalize, leading to a six-run inning.

“We got the win in a tight 1-0 game, and the difference is huge,” said manager Aaron Boone. “He’s capable of big swings, a really impressive shot.”

Vivas was called up to the majors on May 2nd to fill in for Jazz Chisolm Jr. on the injured list, and his playing time increased further when Oswald Cabrera was also sidelined.

Instead of the usual silent treatment in the dugout, teammates were eager to welcome Vivas with backslaps and high-fives after the big hit.

He also reached base when DJ LeMahieu drew a catcher’s interference before being substituted to avoid a lefty matchup later in the game.

“We’re thrilled for him,” said catcher JC Eskara, who just hit his first home run last month. “That was a big homer, the kind that delivers a win. It’s special.”

The Yankees plan to retrieve the ball for Vivas, intending to send it home to his family in Venezuela. After the final out, he spoke with his mother, who watches all the games.

“My family means everything to me,” Vivas said. “Their support has been there since I was a kid. It’s been a journey.”
