Jordan Klepper surprised by absence of ‘cruelty’ from Trump supporters

Jordan Klepper, a co-host on “The Daily Show,” expressed some surprise at the relatively mild reception he got from young male Trump supporters during a recent meeting. This encounter was part of his upcoming documentary titled “Maga: The Next Generation,” where he aimed to delve into the demographics of the fervent support for President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

“I had this ironic view of young people walking through this,” he remarked. He had anticipated facing a more hostile vibe from a group of 22-year-olds.

Reflecting on his interactions, Klepper noted that most of the individuals he spoke with were quite kind and more enthusiastic about the celebrity aspect of Trump than the actual politics. “The Maga was suddenly surrounded by Manosphere experts as counterculture and punk rock,” he observed, hinting at how social media shapes these conversations.

From what he gathered, Klepper believes that the “Maga Movement” could lose its political traction if it were to lose its buzz and fame. Meanwhile, “The Daily Show” faces its own challenges as its parent company, Paramount, navigates a billion-dollar lawsuit against Trump related to allegations of election interference during a “60 Minutes” interview.

This legal battle has already resulted in the resignation of a longtime producer for “60 Minutes.” Although Klepper has stated that his show hasn’t faced pressure from Paramount regarding editorial changes, he’s uncertain about the future. “The future is always a big question mark,” he said. “In the industry, management-wise, who knows whether free speech is legal in six months? I can’t control it, so I’m going to enjoy what we have now.”
