Jordan Peterson’s Health Struggles Revealed by Daughter

Psychologist Jordan Peterson is grappling with a significant health issue, including nerve damage and symptoms of akathisia, as shared by his daughter, Mikhaila Peterson.

This update follows Peterson’s announcement last August regarding his Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), which affects the immune system.

In 2019, he sought treatment for an addiction to benzodiazepines.

Mikhaila, who recently co-hosted a segment of Peterson’s YouTube show on the Daily Wire, described the past year as “terrible.” She expressed her feelings in a heartfelt video, mentioning, “Every day for the past year has been hell.” It’s difficult to fathom how exhausting that must be.

Alongside the video, Mikhaila noted, “We discovered that my father had neurological damage caused by psychiatric drugs and was suffering from akathisia.” She explained that her father’s condition worsened in recent months due to mold exposure, which exacerbated his symptoms and led to complications like sepsis. I can imagine that combination must feel overwhelming.

She recounted how his troubles began last summer with a flare-up, linked to mold and stress from personal losses, including the passing of family members and the sale of their home.

Mikhaila insisted that her father’s akathisia was particularly severe, emphasizing that this kind of neurological damage is often unnoticed or misdiagnosed. Akathisia can lead to extreme restlessness and emotional turmoil, and she characterized it as “devastating.” I wonder how many people truly understand those implications.

She expressed a desire to pause her social media updates until her father’s health improves, for the sake of her family’s emotional well-being. “I won’t have anything to say until things get better,” Mikhaila stated. She also mentioned her intention to raise awareness about psychiatric injuries, which have personally impacted her.

In August, Mikhaila shared her father’s CIRS diagnosis, explaining that it’s related to his immune system’s difficulty in detoxifying mold. Her own experiences may also reflect on her father’s situation; she noted that exposure to mold while helping after her grandfather’s passing worsened her symptoms.

She clarified that this isn’t just a medication issue. “To be clear, this is not an issue with akathisia or medication,” she said, pointing to an underlying immune dysfunction instead.

Together, Peterson and his daughter have stirred discussion about their dietary recommendations, including a carnivore diet limited to beef and salt. Mikhaila noted how medical recognition of certain treatments can lag, suggesting that the issues around indoor air quality and CIRS will gain more acknowledgment within the coming years.

Jordan Peterson, who gained notoriety around 2016 for his views on gender pronouns and related legislation, has become a prominent figure through his lectures and publications, including his popular self-help book, “12 Rules for Life.”
