Jordan Spieth’s run at the Genesis Invitational is coming to an end in a completely unexpected way.
The three-time major champion was disqualified from the tournament on Friday after incorrectly signing his scorecard during the second round.
The problem at Los Angeles’ Riviera Country Club came when he signed on the par-3 fourth hole.
But the problem was that Spieth actually finished the hole in four strokes.
Spieth acknowledged the mistake on social media.
“Today I signed the wrong scorecard and walked out of the scoring area after I thought I had taken all the steps to make sure it was correct,” Spieth said on his Instagram I wrote it in the story. “Rules are rules and full responsibility is mine. I love this tournament and the golf course as much as any other tournament. [the] It’s a PGA Tour so it hurts not being able to run on the weekends. I really appreciate the support in LA. ”
He started the tournament near the top with a 5-under 66 in the first round, but struggled even more on the second day with a 2-over 73 and was forced out of play.
But Spieth wasn’t the only player left early Friday.
Tiger Woods, who is returning to the PGA Tour, withdrew midway through the second round due to “illness.”
After teeing off on the seventh hole, Woods was dragged off the course by rules officials, ending his day.
Rob McNamara, Woods’ business partner, released a statement about an hour and a half after the golfer was ejected, blaming his ejection on worsening symptoms that began on Thursday.
“He started feeling flu-like symptoms last night,” McNamara said. “I woke up this morning and it was worse than the night before. He had a little fever and it got better during warm-ups, but when he went outside to walk or play, he started feeling dizzy. I did.
“In the end, the doctors said he may have had some kind of flu and was dehydrated. He is being treated with an IV bag and is feeling much better, so we’ll see soon. You will be released here alone.”
It was Woods’ first full-field event on the PGA Tour since last year’s Masters, before he needed surgery on his right foot.
The third round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday.
