The beginning of Jordyn Tyson’s journey in the NFL isn’t exactly what he had hoped for. The New Orleans Saints wide receiver, who was a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, is reportedly facing a potential two-month recovery period after suffering a hamstring injury during training camp.
This injury occurred during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday. At just 22 years old, Tyson was selected as the eighth overall pick in April, coming from Arizona State. Saints head coach Kellen Moore mentioned the injury could keep Tyson out for the opening games of the season, with the possibility of missing at least five games if the timeline holds.
There’s been some chatter on social media after Tyson sought multiple opinions regarding his hamstring issue. Fans are understandably concerned about the prospect of him missing several practices, and that just added fuel to the conversation.
If the two-month estimate is correct, Tyson might be back right around Week 6, coinciding with the Saints’ matchup against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. After that, they’ll head to Paris for an international game, which adds a layer of excitement, but it’s a shame that Tyson might miss it.
Interestingly, Tyson had dealt with similar hamstring issues during his college days, but Coach Moore clarified that this situation differs from his past, suggesting that it’s a new issue rather than a continuation of an old one.
“I don’t think my understanding of players in situations where they slip and fall is related to Jordyn’s history,” Moore commented, attempting to quell concerns. He also reassured that Tyson had been participating fully in training camp up until the injury and was adapting well to the team.
Moore, in his second season with the Saints, is tasked with building on the team’s performance from late last year, especially with Tyler Schau stepping in as the starting quarterback. Schau has been gearing up all offseason for this role, and the Saints are keen on surrounding him with talent, including Tyson.
Tyson had previously impressed scouts with a standout season of 1,101 receiving yards in 2024, though his 2025 was marred by injuries, limiting him to just nine games where he still managed 61 catches for 711 yards and eight touchdowns.
In preparation for the new season, the Saints have also extended contracts for key players like top receiver Chris Olave and brought in Travis Etienne Jr. on a substantial deal, not to mention the return of Alvin Kamara, who adds depth to the backfield.
But for now, the focus is on Tyson’s recovery, as everyone hopes to see the first-round pick back on the field soon with the regular season just around the corner.
