Jose Altuve inks five-year, $125 million Astros extension

Jose Altuve and the Astros have agreed to a contract extension.

The Astros second baseman has agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract. Confirmed by Jon Heyman of the Post..

The deal includes a $15 million signing bonus, and Altuve will be paid $30 million in the first three years of the deal and $10 million in the final two years. The Athletic reported.

Altuve becomes the first major league second baseman to reach $300 million in lifetime earnings. Mr. Hayman reported.

The Astros also seemed to confirm the news in a post by X.

“Jose Altuve will be an Astro for life,” the club wrote alongside an image of Altuve.

Altuve, 33, will play his 13th season in the major leagues in 2024, but his new contract will keep him in Houston through the 2029 season.

Altuve was a member of the Astros teams that won the World Series in 2017 and 2022, and was a former member of the team involved in the infamous sign-stealing scandal that tarnished the 2017 championship.

He is one of the faces of the Astros franchise and has been the subject of constant ridicule from opposing fans, especially Yankees fans, since joining Houston in 2017.

I enjoy my game…When I go out and put on the uniform, I play with these guys. I really enjoy it.Hopefully like Craig [Biggio] I said, “I can stay here for the rest of my career.” We all know it’s not up to me.but [it’s] what i want to do [do]”

Altuve holds numerous Astros records, including batting average (.307), doubles (400), RBIs (1,062) and stolen bases (293).

He ranks third in hits (2,047) and fifth in home runs (209), hitting .311/.393/.522 with 17 home runs in 90 games in the 2023 season. ing.
