Knicks Show Promise Following Recent Success

ATLANTA — There’s a growing sense that the best is yet to come for the Knicks.

It all begins with their remarkable 140-89 victory in Game 6 against the Hawks, rounding out a flawless three-game comeback after a tough loss that almost derailed their season.

Then there’s OG Anunoby, stepping into a leadership role. He’s shown himself to be an emerging star. And Karl-Anthony Towns? He may have shot less than in earlier seasons, but he still made a significant impact. Mikal Bridges is coming off one of his best performances in months. Josh Hart? He’s diving for everything, really putting himself out there for loose balls.

And we can’t overlook Jalen Brunson, who’s proving to be one of the top finishers in the league.

With the addition of Jordan Clarkson and Jose Alvarado, the bench now boasts more depth than last year’s crucial players like Mitchell Robinson and Miles McBride, who helped the Knicks reach the Conference Finals.

As Alvarado said recently, “We know how good our bench is and we know how good our team is. We just want to bring the energy and provide whatever the team needs.”

Clarkson, who joined the Knicks on a one-year deal in July, hasn’t quite fit into the rotation like he once did, showing less of the spark that earned him the Sixth Man of the Year title.

Alvarado, acquired earlier this year, faced his struggles too, having been benched during Game 1 against Atlanta. However, both guards ignited a crucial energy boost in the first round, giving coach Mike Brown options for the upcoming matches against the Celtics and 76ers.

During his limited minutes, Alvarado showcased his defensive tenacity, resurfacing with a shooting touch that nearly cost him his place in the lineup. Over the last three games of the series, he tallied 21 points, five assists, and five steals while boasting a plus-24 rating, hitting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. He led the Knicks in steal percentage and ranked high in assists as well.

On the other hand, Clarkson has made a noticeable impact too. In the past three games, he has contributed 48 minutes of play with a remarkable plus-48 rating, attacking both the basket and defense with admirable determination.

Clarkson stood out among the Knicks’ reserves, being the top scorer and making significant contributions in offensive rebounds despite a high usage rate. He reflected on the challenges of being out of the regular rotation but emphasized the importance of staying prepared and setting an example for younger teammates. “It’s all about being ready for your moment,” he said.
