José Andrés on Trump win: 'We will be fine USA will be fine'

Celebrity chef Jose Andrés shared a message after the presidential election saying the country will be “okay.”

“Since I came here 32 years ago, we've had a Republican and a Democratic president…We're okay, America is okay.” Andres told The Washington Post via text.

Andres, a well-known restaurateur and founder of the emergency food relief nonprofit World Central Kitchen, downplayed President-elect Trump's pledge to carry out mass deportations of immigrants, saying, He argued that it is “not possible” to deport people “because they require repatriation.” Create a country and run it. ”

He added that many immigrants work at President Trump's various hotels and businesses. In 2015, Andres scrapped plans to open a restaurant at the Trump Hotel in Washington, D.C., following President Trump's comments about Mexican immigration.

The day before the election, Mr. Andres challenged U.S. Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) for a seat in Congress.

“I'm retiring and running for your seat,” Andres said on social platform X, calling Maryland Republicans “disgraceful” and insisting the state deserves better.

Andres told The Washington Post on Wednesday that he is not yet running for office in Maryland.

“Senator would be great,” he laughed and sent an emoji in the message.

Andres previously told the outlet in 2018 that he believed the country needed people on the right and left with “respect and understanding.”

“If things don't improve in terms of understanding, perhaps we need a chef in the capital who can bring everyone to the table and start these honorable conversations,” he said. “We know good things happen at the table.”
