Josh Allen is taking shots. Downfield, that is. Not his former teammates.
Some interpreted recent comments made by the Bills quarterback as an attack on his former teammates, especially Stefon Diggs.
The relationship between Allen and Diggs has been under scrutiny for years, with the star receiver's offseason trade to the Texans adding to the rumors.
“Everyone wants to keep this thing going.” Allen told reporters Wednesday.according to ESPN. “I know a lot of people are talking about it…I'm not trying to knock anyone down.”
The clarification came in response to a statement the quarterback made Monday night after the Bills defeated the winless Jacksonville Jaguars 47-10.
“It's fun and great to have a bunch of guys who don't care about stats or touchdowns,” Allen said in his postgame press conference.
Stephen A. Smith made a quick assessment.
“Stefon Diggs, you know who you are, you've heard what that guy said,” Smith told “First Take” viewers Tuesday morning.
On Wednesday, Allen was asked specifically about Diggs.
“I loved '14,' and I still love it…We're very focused on what's going on in the building, and that's all we care about right now,” Allen said. spoke.
The relationship between Diggs and Allen was one of the most fascinating in the NFL over his four seasons in Buffalo as the team rose to perennial contender status.
Diggs led the team in both targets and receiving yards each year, totaling 445 catches, 5,372 yards, and 37 touchdowns in 66 games.
With Diggs and fellow wide receiver Gabe Davis leaving Buffalo during the offseason, there were concerns that the Bills' offense would take a step back this season.
Allen has negated any concerns thus far, scoring seven touchdowns through the air and two more on the ground.
The 3-0 Bills look to continue their good run Sunday night (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC) when they take on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Baltimore.
