Josh Allen leads Bills to dominant playoff win over Broncos

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills got the job done in Sunday afternoon's Wild Card Round, defeating the Denver Broncos 31-7 and advancing to the Divisional Round.

The Bills will host the Baltimore Ravens next week to find out who will qualify for the AFC Championship.

When it came to January football, the Bills were the favorites for this game, considering rookie quarterback Bo Nix was scheduled to play his first playoff game on the road against a veteran Buffalo team.

But this game, as he has all season, Nix trusted his talent and hit his old Oregon teammate Troy Franklin for a 43-yard strike to put Denver up 7-0. It started with that.

However, while the “Bill Mafia” weren't too happy with the start of the contest, they knew that Allen, the front-runner for MVP, wasn't going to let them down.

What followed was Buffalo's 31 unanswered points, which started with field goals and touchdowns on the team's first two offensive drives.

The Bills' first touchdown was scored by none other than James Cook, who was joint-leading in the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns on the season. He completed a 13-play drive with a 5-yard barrel into the end zone to make it 10-7.

Cook finished the game with 120 yards rushing on 23 carries against a Denver defense that has been one of the best in the league all season.

Thanks to a long, methodical Bills drive, the first half ended with Broncos kicker Will Lutz slamming a field goal into the goal post to tie the score at 10 apiece, and with the Broncos just a few points away. of the game.

Buffalo scored on every second half drive except for a kneel at the end of the game. That included a ridiculous throw and catch from Allen to Ty Johnson for a touchdown pass from 24 yards out, and a free break by Curtis Samuel for a 55-yard score in the first half. By the start of the fourth quarter, they had secured the victory, 28-7.

In the end, Allen was efficient, completing 20 of 26 for 272 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also rushing for 46 yards on eight carries.

Thanks to that big gain, Samuel became his best receiver in terms of yards. He finished with 68 yards and Khalil Shakir had 6 catches for 61 yards.

Meanwhile, the Knicks were 13-of-22 for 144 yards and one touchdown, and also gained 43 yards rushing. When the Broncos tried to establish a run game, the Bills were stingy and held the Broncos to 79 total yards.
