Josh Allen Involved in Bills’ Head Coach Search

Josh Allen is playing a key role in the Buffalo Bills’ search for a new head coach.

The 2024 NFL MVP is reportedly “always in every interview” and is “involved in everything,” according to a report from Deanna Russini of The Athletic.

Following the firing of head coach Sean McDermott after Sunday’s AFC playoff defeat to the Broncos, the Bills have been actively meeting with various candidates. So far, they have talked to former Giants coach Brian Daboll, current Buffalo offensive coordinator Joe Brady, and Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

Allen is also set to meet with Dolphins coach Mike McDonnell, who was dismissed by Miami, on Friday, along with ex-Chargers coach Anthony Lynn and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver on Saturday, wrapping up with Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Wudynski on Sunday.

Additionally, ESPN noted that the Bills are looking to interview Philip Rivers after he makes a return to play for the Colts later in the season, following a five-year retirement that included coaching high school football.

During McDermott’s nine-year tenure, the Bills achieved a remarkable record of 98-50 in the regular season since 2017. They made eight playoff appearances and reached the AFC Championship Game twice.

However, they haven’t been to the Super Bowl since enduring four consecutive losses from 1990 to 1993. This season, despite falling short to the improved Patriots for the AFC title, it seemed like the Bills had a viable shot at breaking their playoff drought. That was especially true given Patrick Mahomes’ injury and Kansas City’s absence from the playoffs.

In recent comments, Allen, 29, reflected on the tough loss to Denver, where he was responsible for four of the team’s five turnovers. He threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 66 yards.

“It was very difficult. I felt like I let my teammates down,” he admitted. “I haven’t said much other than that I love my teammates. It’s just unfortunate.” He emphasized, “You can’t win with five turnovers. Players who shoot themselves in the foot like that don’t deserve to win a football game.”
