Josh Duhamel Shares Positive Impact of Testosterone Therapy

Josh Duhamel believes that taking testosterone has significantly improved his well-being, making him feel better at 53 than he did two decades ago.

About five years ago, the actor began testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), and he later co-founded Gatlan, a men’s health company offering testosterone replacement therapy, hormone optimization, weight loss, and longevity treatments.

During a recent chat on Dave Asprey’s podcast, “The Human Upgrade,” Duhamel revealed how testosterone therapy has influenced his health positively.

Duhamel’s Personal Experience with Testosterone

“I feel better now than I did in my early to mid-30s,” he said. “I’m not joking. My joints, my back, my knees, everything. I just feel stronger.”

In discussing his motivation behind launching Gatlan, Duhamel mentioned how the benefits of testosterone therapy inspired him. He recalled how some of his former representatives cautioned him against starting the venture, suggesting it might damage his Hollywood image.

“I’m not going to name the agency I left, but they warned me, ‘Don’t do it. It could be bad for your image.’ And I thought, ‘Alright, let’s see,’” he shared.

Duhamel admitted that he initially hesitated, wondering if the agency might have a point. However, he expressed a desire to normalize discussions about testosterone therapy, saying, “My gut was, ‘Why not shine a light on this and make it okay?’ Because nobody’s talking about it. Everyone’s doing it.”

He also emphasized that many men could benefit from this information.

Duhamel’s Journey with Low Testosterone

Duhamel started exploring testosterone therapy after discovering he had low levels during his early 40s. “I had low T in my early 40s,” he shared. “So, I did my research, found a source, although I probably encountered some less reliable batches along the way.”

“But I found that I felt better,” he added. “I got the energy I didn’t have in my 20s and 30s. I said, ‘This works,’ and I wanted to learn more.”

The FDA has approved testosterone treatments for men dealing with medical conditions linked to low testosterone. However, they do require warnings about possible increases in blood pressure, so it’s essential for patients to discuss potential benefits and risks with their doctors.

Duhamel shared that he injects testosterone three times a week to maintain steady levels. He mentioned the treatment has dramatically improved his life and given him the energy to keep up with his three children. He married Audra Mari, 32, in September 2022, and their son Shepherd was born in January 2024.

In May 2026, the couple welcomed a daughter named Rocca de Leon Duhamel. Duhamel also has a 13-year-old son, Axl, from his previous marriage to singer Fergie.

“I wouldn’t be able to manage without it,” he said. “Juggling a 3-month-old and a toddler is a lot.”

Acknowledging the Challenges of Parenthood

“It’s a busy time in our lives,” he continued. “With diaper changes, potty training, and swimming lessons, we’re really on the go.”

Duhamel expressed optimism about the changing narrative surrounding testosterone and hormone treatments, highlighting a growing openness to reevaluating past beliefs.

“I’m glad to see changes in the conversation. There’s a lot of new information that runs counter to what we’ve thought for years,” he said. “And we can do something about it—stay stronger and healthier for longer. It’s also about my interest and curiosity and perhaps a bit of vanity, but mainly I want to be a vibrant dad for my kids.”

Duhamel’s desire for longevity motivates his approach to testosterone therapy. He’s not only looking to improve his current health but also to maintain good health in the years ahead. “I love the idea of being healthy for much longer,” he said. “I want to see my grandkids, and that’s important to me.”

He believes that hormone optimization should be part of a broader conversation about aging, suggesting that both men and women should explore their options with healthcare providers.

“I think everyone deserves a chance to be at their best for longer,” he emphasized, noting the availability of medically supported options. “It’s worth checking into because there’s no need to just let age take over if we don’t have to.”
