Hawley Addresses Trump’s Remarks on Globalism
On Tuesday, Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri discussed President Donald Trump’s recent comments on Fox News, indicating that Trump spoke directly to both Democrats and Republicans, including neoconservatives.
Trump, during a speech in Riyadh, pointed out that real progress in the Middle East comes from within the region, contrasting previous U.S. interventions. Hawley noted that Trump was addressing many influential Republican figures and neoconservatives, emphasizing a departure from the prevailing globalist mindset that both parties have adopted.
Hawley reflected on how Trump’s message resonated during his ongoing tour of the Middle East, criticizing past U.S. nation-building initiatives for draining American resources and morale. He appreciated that Trump doesn’t apologize for America, contrasting it with the approach of the Obama administration, which Hawley described as weak.
He recalled moments from the Obama era, mentioning a time when Obama bowed to foreign leaders and contrasted that with Trump’s strong stance. According to Hawley, Trump’s “America First” approach has helped to restore international respect.
In his speech, Trump denounced U.S. involvement in nation-building, arguing it led to more problems than solutions. He praised Middle Eastern nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE for their development without outside interference.
Trump asserted that the modern achievements in the Middle East were not a result of Western intervention but rather stemmed from the people within those regions, who are capable of pursuing their own sovereign destiny.
Trump’s ongoing tour aims to foster economic agreements and strengthen alliances with significant Gulf states, reminiscent of his 2017 visit that resulted in essential diplomatic strides, such as the Abraham Accords in 2020.
