Josh Simmons Might Return to Chiefs’ Lineup This Week

While the Chiefs haven’t made an official announcement, there are signs that rookie left tackle Josh Simmons could make his return to the starting lineup this Sunday. Simmons has been away for over a month due to family matters that hadn’t been disclosed.

Drafted 32nd overall in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft from Ohio State University, he was back at practice this week.

Kansas City coach Andy Reid mentioned that Simmons has a “chance” to play against the Broncos, who currently lead the AFC West.

The 22-year-old missed several games, including wins against the Lions, Raiders, and Commanders, and a loss to the Bills in Week 9, right before the Chiefs enjoyed a bye last week.

Details around his absence have been scarce, but it’s clear he has now returned to the team’s facilities. Reid shared in late October, “The only update I have with Josh is that we are communicating. It’s all positive. It’s not a negative situation. He’s taking care of his family.”

Simmons wasn’t listed on the team’s final injury report this week, which typically suggests he’ll be ready for the game in Denver.

Reid indicated that he would consult with Simmons and offensive line coach Andy Heck before finalizing any decisions regarding his status.

“He’s just doing his job,” Reid remarked about Simmons’ situation, acknowledging the difficulty of handling such personal matters.

The Chiefs, now at 5-4, have faced losses to both the Broncos (8-2) and Chargers (7-3) this season but will have a second chance against Denver within the next two weeks, including a matchup on Christmas night at Arrowhead Stadium.

In other team news, Kansas City running back Isaiah Pacheco will be unavailable for Sunday’s game due to a knee issue, and Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins is also out with a foot injury.
