Journalist injured in Antifa attack in Portland

Journalist Attacked While Covering Portland Protests

A journalist reporting on the unrest in Portland described a painful incident where she was assaulted by a masked protester affiliated with anti-fascist movements. Katie Daviscourt, a millennial reporter, recounted her experience on Fox News, revealing a significant bruise on her right eye from the encounter.

She explained that she was attacked during protests outside the city’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building. Daviscourt claimed that the protesters have been aggressive toward anyone they view as opposing their cause, including members of the media, local residents, and law enforcement officials.

“Covering Portland has been like wandering into a chaotic reality,” she said, indicating the sustained nature of the unrest, which originated from the Black Lives Matter movement’s protests in 2020.

During the interview, she detailed how the attacker confronted her with a flagpole, swinging it as if it were a bat after making direct eye contact. In the immediate aftermath, she sought assistance from the Portland police, but reached an impasse when they reportedly did not intervene.

“I ran up to a Portland police officer and pointed out the suspect, asking them to take action. I followed her for about 35 minutes, hoping they would help,” Daviscourt recounted, expressing frustration at the officers who remained in the vicinity without intervening.

The Portland Police later issued a statement requesting public help in identifying the suspect, denying any claims of neglect with regard to journalist safety. They mentioned that one of their officers engaged with the suspect, attempting to de-escalate the situation.

Additionally, it was reported that the police had spoken with Daviscourt and are currently investigating the incident further.

In an alarming context, former President Trump said he would send “all necessary troops” to Portland to protect the city and its ICE facilities from what he described as “attacks by antifa and other domestic terrorists,” although state officials have since sought legal action to obstruct these plans.
